The Rundown: Week 2

A recap of my runs this week:

Monday Tuesday – 2.0 Miles

This run actually felt pretty good. Because I don’t know any good, safe routes yet in my area, I’ve still been running on the track at the Y. To avoid what happened on my two-miler last Saturday, I paced myself better, running more intensely for 2 laps (0.2 miles) and taking it easy for half a lap.
Average pace: 10’50”

Wednesday Thursday – 2.0 Miles

Chris laughed at me when I said I was going to get up at 6 a.m. and get my run in, since we had a conflict Thursday night. He either did that because he knows I’m motivated when people think I won’t do something, or he knows me too well (and knows just how much I love sleep). I was a bit tired towards the end of my run, probably because I had an empty stomach but I got done in time to make it to work early. And I felt pretty refreshed all day.

Average pace: 10’50”

Saturday – 4.0 3.0 Miles

Yeah… nope. Definitely didn’t run 4 miles. I cranked out 2 miles at a new trail I found at about 9 a.m. and then felt crazy hot (why, hello there, Texas heat), even after stopping for water. The trail was not shady, at all. I was running alone and started freaking myself out (even though there were people around), but, long story short, I didn’t want to pass out and started walking after mile 2. I walked/ran a little bit more for another mile. I felt like a dang quitter again, but at the same time, I didn’t want to do harm to myself. Chris made me feel better about it when I got home, but I can’t help but have this thought in the back of my mind: hopefully this doesn’t make me a huge wimp. Any recommendations for running in the heat? Did I just lack the grit to push through/was I being a wimp? Should I just train on the indoor track for the rest of the summer? I know I can run 3.5 miles, so 4 shouldn’t be THAT hard. I am afraid that now I’ll be behind for next week.

Average pace: Over 12 minutes…
